Given that Nicole Kidman has lived a significant portion of her life in the public eye, it is not surprising that many details of her life have been made public.
The Australian actress has starred in numerous big-budget films over the years, but it’s perhaps been her marriage to Tom Cruise, including the children they adopted together, that has captured the public’s attention the most.
After meeting in 1989 and getting married on Christmas Eve in 1990, Nicole and Tom formally established themselves as a Hollywood power couple. Their relationship had appeared to be so solid that ending it felt impossible.
And yet they did split apart.
Many have made assumptions about the precise reasons Kidman and Cruise split up, with a recurring idea claiming that Tom’s adherence to the Scientology religion – an adherence the couple’s adopted children evidently share – was to blame for the interpersonal problems.
Kidman talked about it in a fascinating interview with Who magazine. There were many people excited to hear what she had to say on the subject because she never discusses it.

After meeting on the set of the film Days of Thunder and getting married in 1990, Hawaii-born Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were immediately dubbed Hollywood’s “it” pair.
Cruise was without a doubt the bigger star of the two back then. The Top Gun actor also saw to it that they started dating. When Kidman starred in the 1989 film Dead Calm, Cruise noticed her acting prowess. After that, Tom convinced the directors of Days of Thunder to cast Kidman as his love interest and counterpoint.
Sparks started to fly after Cruise and Kidman first met. Kidman claimed that when she first saw the enthusiastic and attractive Cruise, who at the time was wed to actress Mimi Rogers, her jaw fell and she was completely taken aback.
“Before I met Tom, I was in three pretty stable relationships. But I had no intention of getting married. Never. Yet, he was simply the most amazing, peculiar man I had ever encountered, according to Kidman.

The A-list pair experienced a whirlwind romance after meeting on site, and they appeared to be a match made in heaven.
On Christmas Eve 1990, Cruise and Kidman exchanged vows in Telluride, a little hamlet in the midst of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. The ceremony was intimate and peaceful. There were only a few family members from each family there, and the ceremony was over in 30 minutes. The actor Dustin Hoffman was one of the few guests who came from outside the wedding party.
After their wedding, Kidman expressed a desire to become pregnant with Cruise, and it appeared that her wishes would be fulfilled more quickly than most people had anticipated.
Tragically, she experienced an ectopic pregnancy at the age of 23 in 1990. Couples Cruise and Nicole lost their child. They made the decision to consider other choices after that.
Daughter Isabella Jane Cruise (born 1992) and son Connor Cruise (born 1995) were both adopted by the couple when they were just a few months old.

Regrettably, the peace within the family would soon dissipate.
Tom, Isabella, and Connor are Church of Scientology members, but Nicole isn’t. There are persistent rumours that Kidman was turned off by this exact divergence in belief and perspective.
They (her children) are grownups, she remarked in an interview with Who magazine. They have the capacity to decide for themselves.
“As a mother, it’s my responsibility to love them because they have chosen to be Scientologists.”
Connor and Isabella, the 55-year-old actress’s two daughters, are Scientologists, and I totally accept their beliefs, she revealed in an interview with Vogue.
I have to safeguard all those relationships, she continued. I am quite certain that I would lose my life for my children since that is what I am here for.
I believe it is crucial because if it is taken away from a child, to sever that in any child, in any connection, in any family — I believe that is wrong, said Nicole.
So, providing unwavering love is part of our responsibility as parents.

Currently, Nicole is married to country music star Keith Urban; the two are parents to two daughters.
