Swans are not known for being friendly or accessible. They are very protective of their territory and can pose a significant threat. So it’s no surprise that the scene in which an injured swan comforts Richard Wiese, host of the TV show “Born to Explore,” is so heartwarming.
Injured after colliding with a chain-link fence, Wiese encountered the swan during a visit to the Abbotsbury Swannery in the United Kingdom a few years ago. Wiese held the swan as the veterinarian examined her.
“When I put it next to me, I could feel its heart pumping, and it just relaxed its neck and wrapped it around mine,” Wiese told ABC News. To have an animal put their complete trust in you is a priceless experience.
I pulled it to my chest and somehow it felt comfortable or safe

I could feel its heart beating and it just relaxed its neck and wrapped it around mine

Wiese helped to examine the injured swan by holding her

It’s a really terrific feeling when you feel that bond and mutual trust with this non-verbally communicating animal

when the animal realizes you intend it no harm
