Have you ever wondered how ancient monuments might seem if they were still standing today? Many historians are working to preserve the historical legacy. However, buildings that have been destroyed cannot be rebuilt. At least, not in the actual world! What about pictures, though?
Evgeny Kazantsev, a digital artist, utilized his photoshop talents to build an alternative world where the wonder of ancient and fabled structures may be observed against a modern backdrop. Even though Evgeny took these photographs for an insurance commercial, they have great creative value.
#1 The Great Sphinx Of Giza
The Old Kingdom Egyptians created the Great Sphinx of Giza during the reign of Khafre (c. 2558–2532 BC), whose face it most likely portrays. It is one of Egypt’s earliest colossal sculptures and is well-known around the globe.
#2 The Great Temple At Petra
Under the reign of Nabatean king Aretas IV, a massive structure was completed in the first century CE. Compared to the other sites on this list, the massive ensemble of buildings covers roughly 81,375 square feet and is well conserved.
#3 Takkyubin Observatory Of Constantinople
The Takkyubin (Taqi ad-Din) observatory in Constantinople was one of the biggest astronomical observatories in the medieval world. It was demolished in 1580 because it was used for astrology and astronomy, both forbidden by the Sharia.
#4 The Zeus Statue in Olympia
Zeus, the monarch of the gods of Mount Olympus, is shown as a massive sitting figure. It stood around 41 feet tall and was erected in Olympia, Greece, 435 BC. The statue’s hardwood structure was adorned with ivory and gold plates.
#5 The Babel Tower
This tower is a mythical edifice referenced in the Old Testament book of Genesis. While many people believe the Tower of Babel is a fable, other historians believe it is linked to ancient monuments in Sumeria and Babylon.
#6 At Halicarnassus, the Mausoleum
Mausolus, the Anatolian king of Caria, had this tomb erected for him. It was built by eminent Greek artists and had sculptural reliefs on its sides. It was about 148 feet tall.
#7 The Rhodes Colossus
This monument was erected to commemorate the victorious defense of Rhodes City during Demetrius Poliocretes’ year-long siege. It is the highest ancient statue, standing at around 108 feet tall. However, it only lasted 54 years before collapsing due to an earthquake.
#8 The Artemis Temple
Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, wild animals, the Moon, and virginity, was honored at the Temple of Artemis. It was rebuilt twice, but by 401 AD, it was utterly demolished. Only the foundations and parts of the previous temple remain.
